Umair, I agree that the solution to the divides you describe is a full throttle focus on battling climate change, but your depiction of the “woke left” here is surprisingly off-base: specifically, painting it as being primarily and disproportionately consumed with trans rights. If anything, the “woke left’s” preoccupation over the last 8-10 years has been structural racism, crescendoing in mid-2020 after the murder of George Floyd. But I suspect you chose not to focus on that because dismantling structural racism is both more broadly sympathetic to the centre-left and affects more of your readership than trans rights. And re: divides over swimming pools, were not the centre and the left of the United States divided by just this 60 years ago? Like I said, I agree your final analysis, but I think you rely on some flimsy characterisations to get there.
